Bay Shore's Steve Borbet To Be Inducted Into Armory Coaches Hall of Fame at AT&T Hall of Fame InvitationalPublished by
Photo Courtesy of James Escher Steve Borbet says being hired as the girls track and field coach at Bay Shore in 1975 was the second best thing that ever happened to him. The first was his wife, who has been coaching cross country at Smithtown High School for 15 years, and his children. Borbet led more championship teams than any other coach, in any other sport, in Suffolk County history. They’ve won seven individual and relay national titles, as well as 39 Suffolk Country Championships. In 2004, his girls broke the national outdoor DMR record. One of Borbet’s fondest coaching memories came during 2012’s New Balance Nationals Outdoor, where he was awarded the National Coach of the Year in-between his team winning the sprint medley relay and his star hurdler, Jessica Gelibert, winning the 400m hurdles. Another major measure of Borbet’s success, is that over 65 of his former athletes went on to become coaches. Because of his tireless dedication to track and field, Borbet, along with the seven coaches listed below will be inducted into the Armory Coaches Hall of Fame during the AT&T Hall of Fame Invitational on December 19. Each athlete will be allowed to compete in three events and there will be no limit on the number of team entries per event. Otherwise those invitations become “at large” bids. The meet will also feature the unveiling of a brand new Armory Coaches Hall of Fame display and launch of our new field event results displays system, which consists of double-sided, live result scoreboards at each field event. Meet entry is available on the AT&T Hall of Fame Invitational meet page. More news
